..dreaming of the south and the warm
The quartet is made up by Josefin Klein, Jesper Klein, Peter Eriksson and Robert Hefter and is based in Stockholm, Sweden.
Josefin and Jesper are siblings and started their songwriting collaboration in the autumn of 2005.
Before that they played in Jespers band My Sweet Life, where they also met drummer Peter. Robert, an old friend of Jesper, joined the band in june 2007.
One day Josefin and Jesper were promenading the beautiful and bird rich landscape of east Gotland when the name decision was taken. It may have had something to do with an inspired idea of birds who had to take vacation from the flu infected Sweden that spring.
After this, new songs came together and Peter was asked to join the duo to record some songs.
Between august 2006 and may 2007 the band was scattered due to living far apart - in Paris France and Uppsala/Stockholm Sweden. Instead of gigs and tours, Birds on Holiday spent most of the time together in 2006 recording the debut album In foreign countries which was released in November 2007 by Maine, USA based label Sandboxtree records.
"In foreign countries" is a 100% do it yourself work. All the writing, tracking, mixing and production was done in peoples houses, practice spaces etc. Most of the recording work took place at two main sessions, one in March at our friend Johans place in Dalarna, and the other in December at Jesper and Josefins aunts house in Stockholm. Jesper, Josefin and Peter play most of what can be heard on the record - except for a guitar track by Johan Källs and a cello by Klara Goedecke. Back in Paris, Josefin also added a couple of field recordings for 'Who did you want to seduce' and 'What did you expect of love'. Robert mastered the album right after he had joined the band.
Since June 2007 we are happy to finally be able to practice and create together as a band. The live set is starting to groove and swing. In other words, don't miss our upcoming shows! We have many new songs and are planning and writing for the next record which we will try to complete before the summer.
